# Optical coherence tomography

Cross sectional imaging that shows the layers beneath the surface.

OCT uses light waves to build a cross section of the eye at microscopic resolution, the way an ultrasound builds a cross section with sound. Where topography maps the surface, OCT shows what sits underneath it. That makes it the test that distinguishes a stable finding from a progressing one, because thickness can be measured today and compared against the same measurement next year.

## What it finds

- Corneal thickness and layer structure
- Optic nerve fibre layer thinning in glaucoma
- Macular swelling and fluid
- Scleral lens vault and clearance
- Progression tracking over time
