## About Sun City

Sun City was the original American active adult community and remains one of the largest, built around recreation centres, golf and an age restricted model that has been copied everywhere since. Residents are active and independent well into later life. Built from 1960 onward on former cotton fields, it was designed around circular street patterns and shared recreation rather than around schools, because the original model excluded children entirely. Residents run much of the community themselves through volunteer organisations.
