# Computer Glasses

Computer glasses are prescription lenses optimised for screen working distance, typically 50 to 70 centimetres. They give a wide comfortable field at that distance rather than the narrow corridor a progressive lens provides.

Screens occupy an awkward middle distance that neither distance nor reading prescriptions serve well. For anyone over forty in progressives, they also sit at exactly the height where the lens is least helpful, which is why so many office workers spend the day with their chin lifted.

A computer lens is designed around your actual working distance. It provides a wide, clear field at screen distance with no head tilting, and it typically extends usable vision a little beyond the screen so colleagues across the desk are not a blur.

## Questions and answers
**How is this different from reading glasses?**

Reading glasses are optimised for about 40 centimetres. A screen typically sits at 50 to 70. That difference is enough to leave you leaning forward all day.

**Do I need them if I already have progressives?**

If you spend hours at a screen, very likely. The progressive corridor at screen height is narrow, and finding it means head tilting that causes neck and shoulder pain.

**What if I have two monitors?**

Say so, and give both distances. Lens design can accommodate a wider working zone when the layout is known.

**Do they need blue light filtering?**

Only if you want it for glare comfort. This practice makes no claim that it protects eye health, because the evidence does not support that claim.
