# Eye care for People Considering LASIK

This practice does not perform refractive surgery. It provides the candidacy assessment, the referral when you are suitable, and the post operative care, which means the advice is not shaped by who profits from the procedure.

The awkward thing about researching LASIK is that most of the detailed information available comes from organisations that perform it. That does not make the information wrong, but it does mean the advice about whether you personally should have it is coming from an interested party.

This practice does not perform surgery. What it provides is the assessment: corneal topography and thickness measurement, prescription stability review, ocular surface evaluation, and a straight answer about candidacy.

A meaningful proportion of people who want LASIK are not suitable, most commonly because of corneal thickness, prescription instability or untreated dry eye. Being told that clearly, with the reasoning shown from your own maps, is more useful than a consultation that ends in a booking.

## What matters most

**Am I actually a candidate?**

Corneal thickness, prescription stability, age and ocular surface health all determine it, and it is measured rather than estimated.

**What if I am not?**

Ortho-K is usually the first alternative to assess, because nothing is removed so thin corneas rarely rule it out. PRK and implantable lenses are the surgical alternatives.

**What LASIK will not do**

It corrects your distance prescription. It does not prevent presbyopia, cataract, glaucoma or retinal disease, and it does not end the need for eye examinations.

Yes, with your imaging, measurements and history transferred to the surgeon.

**Will I still need reading glasses?**

From the mid forties, yes, regardless of how successful the surgery is. Presbyopia is a change in the lens inside the eye and corneal surgery does not affect it.
